Tobe ware ceramics started making its appearance when Kato Yasokichi, 9th lord of the Ozu Domain (1769-1787),
started hiring potters from Hizen. In 1976 Tobe ware was officially designated by the government as a traditional crafts. The porcelain are characterized by a slightly thick, rugged base and fine brush strokes.
Maker: Tobe ware (Ehime prefecture)
Materials: porcelain (and cork for wine bottle)
