Wajima Kirimoto is a small family run workshop in Ishikawa, Japan. They have been crafting tradtiaonl lacquerware from the late Edo period onwards to today.
Urushi lacquer is an extremely tough and durable traditional finish made from tree resin. The lacquering technique is a traditional highly skilled craft in Japan. Lacquer is applied in many repeated coats onto the bare woodenware to gradually build up the indescribably deep and luminous lacquerware finish so revered in Japan.
