CASHEW THE LIGHT

A collaboration between Kate Hill and Luke Beesley.

 May 17-Jun 2, opening Friday May 17, 6pm-8pm

In Cashew the Light, poet Luke Beesley's words and drawings appear on artist, Kate Hill's, ceramics. The exhibition delights in surfaces and tactility, and considers a place between writing, drawing, sculpture and ceramics. Drafts of poems have been created alongside the throw, bisque, and fire of vessels, with a sensitivity to this vocabulary. Cashew the Light explores memory, and an aesthetic appreciation of light and the everyday.

Luke Beesley is a Melbourne-based poet, and musician and artist. He is the author of Lemon Shark (Soi 3) and Balance(Whitmore Press), and his third poetry collection, New Works on Paper (Giramondo) is forthcoming. He's presently working on an artists' book of poems and drawings called Seed which was researched with a State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship, and his band New Archer will soon release their debut EP.

Kate Hill is a Melbourne-based artist working across the media of print, ceramic and drawing. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, and her prints are in several collections around Australia. 2013 will see her taking part in a series of collaborations; Cashew the light, with poet Luke Beesley at Mr Kitly gallery, My River, at Counihan Gallery, Brunswick, and an artist residency at Laughing Waters Artist in Residence Program, Eltham.
