The Allure of Japanese Ceramics

Since Japan opened to trade with the West in the mid-19th century, collectors and curators have been enamoured with Japanese ceramics. In the past two decades, this love has deepened and broadened, touching upon both functional and sculptural works by contemporary artists. This has in turn had a significant impact on the artistic development in Japan.
