Attempts at Lotus

I’ve been doing a lot more meditation and I’ve had the idea to make a lotus flower sculpture for a long time

I knew it would take time to make so lockdown has been an ideal time to make it. I made the moulds for the petals in 5 sizes and had my first attempt in May lockdown. All the petals fell off in the glaze firing. My second attempt was in July lockdown, a slightly larger one but again a few petals fell off in the glaze firing and I refired it 4 times. I just finished my third attempt this August and took care to join the petals while the clay was still plastic and I also added extra clay for support and tried to fix other petals to each other. So fingers crossed.

What have you been up to in lockdown is an online collation, a mix tape of sorts, of works, projects, and meanderings by artists whose work Mr Kitly has represented over the years.

Melbourne has been in extended lockdown since March due to corona and is currently under the strictest stay at home laws imposed since the crisis began. We are all staying at home to keep each other safe and reach the other side.

This series is a way to hear about what our Mr Kitly friends and artist community have been up to during lockdown. I miss seeing them all in person and being inspired by what they do.  - Bree (Mr Kitly)
