Claire Ellis x Mr Kitly Incense Holder Kit

A beautiful ceramic incense holder made from recycled ceramic studio waste clay material. It consists of swirled ceramic sink trap waste with larger pieces of crushed failed ceramics mixed in, evocative of terrazzo.

The flat, poetic shape of this weighty brick form has been hand sanded on all sides with a diamond disc to reveal the pattern unique to each piece.

Unglazed but fired to the top temperature range of 1230C, creating a mix of warm browns and cool grey tones.  This high firing leads to the melting of pieces of rock and glaze material that are naturally occurring and self decorating.  The cavities in the material are evocative of the naturally occurring cavities found in travertine and other rock.
